I bought the API test kit at my lunch break I'll test the water tonight, but the kit does not test for chlorine, I'll have to get a strip for that (or add more dechlor) If it was chlorine and not ammonia then I should be able to maybe try again but with just one fish and do a drip, or at least a much more gradual acclimate. I added the biostart and put the tetras in the tank to temperature acclimate while we had dinner, so a good 30 minutes, then I didn't drip acclimate, I just sort of opened the bag. The fish store girl did say that 4 may be too many, so she sold me some more biostart, this time it was the fluval biostart. Then let the tank run for 24 hours, temp was stable and everything (78 deg), so I went to buy the fish. I set up the tank on Monday and added the safe start and the aqua safe at that time. I used the Tetra safe start and aqua safe plus that came with the aquarium kit, but the very short life makes me think chlorine or thermal shock.
